Extrasensory Perception

Have you ever seen a storefront while walking in your neighborhood, advertising, “$20 for a Psychic Reading!” or another, “I Can Tell Your Future!” You probably ignored those signs and kept walking, thinking it was just a scam, right?

And possibly it was. There are many people out there that purport to be “psychic” or “clairvoyant,” who are lying to people, running a scam, leading them to believe they have some sort of paranormal ability, all in the pursuit of money. When they don’t. Or maybe they believe they do, but they are mistaken or deluded.

There are certain people though, who really are gifted and have a special ability. While some of these people have achieved fame, others hide or keep their abilities secret, afraid of being ridiculed or worse, considered insane or delusional.

What Are the Different Forms of ESP?

Extrasensory perception, or ESP, is an umbrella term for a broad range of paranormal abilities. These abilities include the following:

Intuition: the ability to know or feel something without using conscious reasoning

Telepathy: the assumed exchanging or connection of thoughts or images linking up via other than the known senses.

Psychometry: the assumed skill to discover facts about a person by touching or handling inanimate objects that belong to or are connected with them.

Clairvoyance: the ability to obtain information about a person, location or event beyond the known senses.

Clairaudience: The ability to hear what is unable to be heard.

Clairsentience: The skill to acquire information by the sense of feeling.

The scientific community considers ESP to be pseudoscience.

Back in 1938, at Duke University, J.B. Rhine and his wife, Louisa E. Rhine, performed investigations into ESP using Zener cards. Zener cards display the following symbols: circle, square, wavy lines, cross, and star. There are five of each type of card in a pack of 25.

Ultimately their results were deemed to be anecdotal and possibly biased. However, their research still continued.

Do You Feel You Have Extra Sensory Perception?

Think of times you’ve been thinking of someone, and then they call you a few minutes later.

Or maybe you’ve lost something, and then a mental image pops into your head of it being under your bed. You check, and it’s there.

That’s a few examples of extrasensory perception. Have you ever had similar experiences where you felt you knew something that was beyond the known senses?  Has your family had experiences like this as well? How often does it happen to you?

One of the best ways to track your findings is to keep a diary or journal of any occurrences that you deem are “ESP experiences”. Then you can look back and see how frequently it occurs, and if there were any common patterns or triggers that would occur before each event.

Keep in mind that certain mental health issues can also cause someone to believe they have a supernatural ability - when they actually don’t. So make sure that you are healthy in body and mind, to start with, before examining your experiences as ones related to the paranormal or ESP. Unless you’re seeing a high degree of accuracy in your predictions or psychic connections/experiences, it could be due to something else. It’s wise to be skeptical sometimes of ourselves and what we are experiencing, to ensure that our observations are accurate.

So try keeping track of your observations – and you may discover that you have a very special ability (or abilities) that can enrich your lives and others.
